Öko-Feldtage 2025 – one of the largest European exhibitions focused on organic farming, held every two years. This year’s edition took place on June 18–19 at the organic farm Wassergut Canitz GmbH in Saxony, located directly next to a major drinking water source for the region. The event attracted a record-breaking 362 exhibitors and over 9,000 visitors – more than 5,000 of them on the first day alone – clearly highlighting the growing importance of long-term collaboration between practice, research, and policy. The main theme was water protection – expert talks, field tours, and exhibitor booths revolved around water management, climate-adapted crop rotations, and technologies for efficient water retention.
🔎 What caught our attention:
The Keyline design agroforestry system by Baumfeldwirtschaft as a strategy for flood prevention.
Crop rotations tailored to minimize nitrate leaching into groundwater – a crucial measure to safeguard the nearby drinking water source. For instance, by terminating perennial forage crops in spring and following them with spring cereals.
Specially designed cover crop mixtures, which not only fix nutrients and improve soil structure but above all help protect groundwater from nitrate contamination. Some blends include plantain, known for improving nitrogen-use efficiency.
Dozens of varieties of cereals, oilseeds, pulses, and specialty crops presented side-by-side – an excellent opportunity for direct comparison. In cooperation with ČTPEZ, we are preparing a video on organic oilseed cultivation. Many thanks to KWS, Lidea, and NaturSaaten for the insightful interviews!
A new development from Treffler: the TGA tine cultivator equipped with a narrow subsoil tine placed behind a wing share – ideal for gently loosening compacted layers caused by repeated shallow tillage.
The Moreni vertical soil tiller, featuring specially shaped tips for mechanically terminating perennial crops – we plan to test this implement in the Czech Republic soon (in collaboration with Profiagrartechnik e.K.).
The MULCHTEC transplanter for direct planting into green mulch – we’ve been following this company since 2017, and it’s exciting to see their system continue to evolve.
The exhibition is definitely worth visiting for anyone who wants to stay informed about the latest trends and innovations in organic farming. Special thanks to Martin Matěj for the photos.
📅 The next edition will take place on June 16–17, 2027, at Bauckhof Amelinghausen in Lower Saxony – and we’re already looking forward to it!
