Introducing Protein Crops with Targeted Soil Corrections

2024 season (with follow-up next sowing)
Soil constraints were making diversification feel risky. We turned the unknowns into a concrete action plan, giving the farm the confidence to move forward.
THE CHALLENGE
The farm wanted to introduce a high-value protein crop, but soil constraints (pH and nutrient availability) made establishment and yield reliability uncertain. The goal was to reduce risk before scaling.
WHAT WE DID
We identified limiting factors from soil tests and translated them into a simple correction plan. We recommended a suitable crop choice and management approach that fits the farm’s system and local climate risk. We aligned sowing timing and field selection with weed pressure and machinery capacity so the crop could be managed well in real life. The advisory output included a step-by-step establishment plan and practical decision thresholds.
OUTCOMES & IMPACT
The farm gained confidence to diversify because unknowns were turned into concrete actions and a realistic timeline. This reduces trial-and-error and supports scaling if the first season performs well.
